Physician/surgeon who specializes in diseases of the ears, nose, throat, and head and neck. People usually call them ear, nose and throat doctors. These doctors offer surgical and medical care. These type of diseases are the most common ones among our society, since it affects all people, does not matter how old one is, or what gender it is. Anyone could have an ear infection, a soar throat, some problem with breathing etc. The majority of people who comes to otolaryngologist have some problem with hearing or the ears in general, or nasal congestion. Almost every doctor in this line of practice rely on phyisical exams, because almost everything can be seen just by touching a patient.
When it comes to otolaryngology there are seven area of expertise in that field. Usually doctors take additional studies to specialize in one of these fields. The fields are: allergy, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck- removal of tumors and cancers, laryngology- disorders of the throat, otology- disorders of the ear, pediatric otolyngology- ear, nose and throat treatment with children, and rhinology- disorders of the nose and sinuses.
Doctor first finishes medical school of otolaryngology, to know general facts about it, and then chooses a specialization from these seven fields, and becomes an expert in it.
